He graduated from St. Cloud State University with a major in Strategic Communications and a minor in Human Relations. He is also a classically trained pianist and multi-genre record producer. At NewPublica, Shota puts his passion into each project. As a first-generation immigrant from Japan, he deeply cares about members of the BIPOC community. She has led engagement efforts with mainstream and BIPOC communities in the Twin Cities metro area, and worked on transportation, health, and education projects. She has 5 years of experience in community engagement that includes working for Dakota County, managing outreach with school districts, businesses, and faith leaders on community-driven solutions to expand active living opportunities. Fartun is a student at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. At NewPublica, she works on various infrastructure projects and actively engages with BIPOC communities to better understand neighborhood voices and needs.

She serves in the Minnesota Senate since her election in 2012, and was elected Minority Leader in 2021. Before co-founding NewPublica, Melisa was an attorney at Target Corporation, holding various positions, titles, and responsibilities in Target’s government affairs and community relations. She has strong ties to the community, having served on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys as well as Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio (CLUES). Expertise: Alberto is a leading authority on multicultural communications and marketing in Minnesota. As the CEO and co-founder of Latino Communications Network (LCN), now NewPublica, he produced the weekly Spanish newspaper La Prensa de Minnesota and the weekly Spanish publication Vida y Sabor. LCN also operated 24-hour Spanish radio stations 1400 and 1470 AM La Invasora between 2005 and 2013. Alberto is a seasoned expert on marketing to the Latino community and is a regular commentator in the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, Minnesota Public Radio, and other Minnesota business media. Alberto was elected to the Minneapolis School Board in 2010, serving as chair from 2012 to 2014.
